Tamil Nadu – The Land of Temples

Tamil Nadu is a land of temples. Thiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu, India is a very famous worship place of Lord Shiva. Thiruvannamalai is located at a distance of around 187 KM from Chennai and is well connected to all major districts of Tamil Nadu. Thiruvannamalai has a hill which is 2668 feet high. It is believed that the hill by itself is Lord Shiva and geographically, the hill if looked from an aerial view looks exactly likethe Shiva Lingam. Thiruvannamalai is again a very small town and temple and the hill constitutes a major part of it.

Thiruvannamalai temple is really an exciting place of worship. The temple is a standard example for the Tamilians Engineering skills. The temple has a total of 6 praharams. The Raja Gopuram, which is the real marvel of the temple, is located sixth praharam. The Raja Gopuram stands with all its grace to an altitude of 217 feet. This Raja Gopuram is considered to be the second largest Gopuram in Tamil Nadu. This temple also has a mandapam which has 1000 pillars. In every such pillar you will find beautiful sculptures carved to maximum beauty. The temple is so big that if one needs to get into the main Garbagraham crossing all the six pragarams, it will take atleast some 10 minutes for an average person. Other deity's worship place is also constructed with same marvel lot of sculptures that you might not have imagined.

Girivalam

Girivalam is one of the most important practices that are being carried out in Thiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu. It is said that a Girivalam on a full moon day gives you God's blessings and will free you off from all the sin. There are totally 8 Shiva lingams in 8 directions of the Girivalam path. Worshipping all these Shiva Lingas, will free you out of all your worries and give you peace and harmony.
